Bitwise Says Crypto Is Entering a New Growth Phase — Q3 Was One of the Best Quarters in Crypto History

Bitcoin price news Bitwise crypto growth phase Q3 ETF inflows tokenized stocks trading

Crypto may be entering a new growth phase, according to asset manager Bitwise. In its new Q3 2026 market review, published on Tuesday, the firm says the third quarter was one of the best quarters in crypto history, even though Bitcoin is right now trading in a tight range near $83,000 while traders wait for US inflation data.

The recovery in the numbers is hard to miss. The Bitwise 10 Large Cap Crypto Index, which tracks the 10 largest crypto assets, rose about 46% in Q3, and all ten coins in it posted double-digit gains. That is a sharp turnaround from three months earlier, when prices, onchain activity and ETF flows were all falling at the same time.

Institutional money played a big part. Spot Bitcoin ETFs took in roughly $6 billion during the quarter, including about $3.5 billion in August alone, and that flipped the year-to-date ETF flow numbers back into positive territory. Bitwise investment chief Matt Hougan says he has never seen this much real-world adoption of crypto in almost a decade in the industry.

The growth was not only about price. Tokenized stocks jumped about 65% to a new all-time high near $3.2 billion, as big names such as Robinhood and Coinbase entered the space. At the same time, open interest on decentralized perpetual futures exchanges hit a record near $26 billion, with a growing share linked to stocks, commodities and other traditional assets.

For traders, this long-term picture clashes with the short-term one: recent weeks have brought heavy weekly ETF outflows and nervous trading ahead of Wednesday's US inflation report. Bitwise expects the recovery to widen as more stocks, commodities and other assets move onto blockchains under new US rules and decentralized exchanges expand round-the-clock trading, but it also warns that higher interest rates and political uncertainty remain real risks.

The message for now is to watch both clocks: US inflation data and daily ETF flows will drive Bitcoin's next short-term move around the $83,000 level, while the Q3 adoption numbers suggest the market underneath is getting stronger, not weaker.
