BREAKING: DTCC to Launch Tokenized Securities This Month — $30 Trillion Pool Starts With 25 Stocks, ETFs and Treasuries

DTCC tokenization news $30 trillion securities launch 25 stocks ETFs Treasuries Canton Besu trading

The company at the heart of US stock settlement is about to move real securities onto a blockchain. DTCC has confirmed its Tokenization Service will launch commercially by the end of October 2026, starting with just 25 securities on the Canton Network and its own private Besu network.

The starting list is small by design, but the pool behind it is huge. The first tokens will cover large-cap Russell 1000 stocks, major ETFs and US Treasuries, all backed one-to-one by securities held at DTC. DTCC says about $30 trillion of assets could be tokenized over time — roughly a quarter of the more than $114 trillion it holds in custody. Each token keeps the same CUSIP number, the same legal rights and the same investor protections as the normal security.

The trading change is speed. Tokenized securities will be able to move around the clock between registered, screened wallets on the same network, instead of waiting for market hours. Switching between the normal form and the token form will run on business days, with DTCC aiming to finish each conversion in about 15 minutes or less. More than 30 institutions already tested the system in live production trades in July.

For traders, this matters because DTCC is not a small crypto start-up — it sits behind almost every US stock trade. If banks and brokers can move tokenized stocks and Treasuries at any hour for collateral, lending and repo deals, quality assets will no longer sit idle overnight or over weekends. DTCC also estimates the wider shift could save up to about $100 billion worldwide, though that is an industry estimate, not a promise.

The rollout will stay limited at first. Only eligible DTC participants — mainly large banks, brokers and custodians and their clients — can use the service, and transfers are restricted to approved wallets, not any crypto wallet. The bigger test comes in 2027, when DTCC plans to add Stellar and Circle's Arc network, widen the asset list and add on-chain settlement. Traders will watch how fast real volume follows this month's launch.
