BREAKING: Mastercard Opens Stablecoin Spending at Hundreds of Millions of Shops — New BVNK Platform Goes Live

Mastercard stablecoin news BVNK Global Money Platform spend digital dollars hundreds of millions merchants 130 countries trading

Mastercard has opened its global payments network to stablecoin spending. On October 15, Mastercard and BVNK unveiled the Global Money Platform, a new service that lets customers spend digital dollar balances at hundreds of millions of merchant locations around the world, without first moving their money back to a bank.

The platform gives banks, fintech firms and businesses one account and one simple connection for both normal money and stablecoins. It handles real-time conversion, payment cards and international payouts in a single system. It is the first big product launch since Mastercard bought BVNK in August, in a deal reported to be worth up to about $1.8 billion.

The scale is huge. Card issuing through the platform covers more than 130 countries, and Mastercard Move, its money-movement service, reaches more than 17 billion bank accounts, cards and other endpoints. Coverage is expected to grow further in 2027, to more than 40 currencies across over 200 countries and territories. Nuvei, Marqeta, Ontop, Beem and Almond FinTech are among the first companies building on the platform.

For traders, this is another sign that stablecoins are moving from trading screens into everyday payments. Coins like USDC and USDT have mostly been used to move money between exchanges, but a checkout network of this size could create steady new demand that does not depend on Bitcoin's price swings. Payment-focused crypto projects will be watched closely as banks and fintechs start offering these accounts.
