RLUSD just landed on Coinbase, the app millions of people already use to buy crypto. Starting today, Coinbase lets its users swap dollars into Ripple's stablecoin one-for-one. That puts a $2.6 billion stablecoin right where everyday traders and big funds already sit, instead of on a side platform they have to go find.
Key points:
- RLUSD is live on Coinbase Prime, Coinbase Exchange and the retail app, with dollar swaps at one to one.
- You can move it in and out on three networks: the XRP Ledger, Ethereum and Base.
- The bigger step still waits: support for Coinbase Global Exchange customers, where RLUSD could work as collateral, comes later.
The two firms announced the move together on Wednesday. Ripple's stablecoin chief, Jack McDonald, said big firms want good stablecoins on platforms they already trust. Coinbase's Brett Tejpaul called it one more step toward an "everything exchange", one place where clients pick the assets that fit their plan.
It caps a packed week for Ripple. On Monday, it won final approval to set up a national trust bank in the US. It widened its work with BNY on custody for XRP and RLUSD, and it teamed up with Robinhood to bring RLUSD to that firm's retail and big-client business. Earlier on Wednesday, Moody's gave RLUSD an A2 long-term rating and a P-1 short-term rating. RLUSD came out in December 2024 and has grown to about $2.6 billion.

So where does this leave XRP?
For traders, the honest split is this. RLUSD is pegged to one dollar, so a listing does not pump it the way a coin listing can. What can grow is use: how much RLUSD moves through Coinbase, how much cash Ripple puts behind it on Base, and when Global Exchange users can post it as collateral. On Base, Ripple said it will supply cash to help RLUSD trading grow there.
My own read is this: Watch the flows, not the press release. A listing opens the door. Only real use walks through it. If RLUSD starts showing up in big payment and settlement flows, this week will look like a turning point. If it sits quiet on Coinbase, it stays just one more listing.
One thing to keep in mind: Global Exchange support is not live yet, so anyone hoping to post RLUSD as collateral today will have to wait for that next phase.
